Based in the Waterloo Region of Ontario, Lisaard & Innisfree Hospice provides hospice palliative care for those who are facing end-of-life care.
Founded in 1996, after it was recognised by members of the local community that there was a need for alternative choices to the few services that were available. This group of individuals began a charity foundation that would include a residential hospice in the region.
Their aim was to be able to provide a home-like setting in which staff can give high quality palliative care for adults…. a place where a person is able to die with dignity, free from pain and surrounded by their loved ones.
In 2000 Lisaard House opened their doors to their first residents, named after a small hotel in Ireland – a place that the members of the founding committee had found to be a place of peace and tranquility, a vision of which they aspired to.
With an approach based on care for not only the patient but also their family, caregivers and loved ones, the foundation has grown to open a further hospice location in Kitchener – Innisfree House, also inspired by a location in Ireland, opened in 2015.
